NOW ON EXHIBIT: A PANHARD & LEVASSOR, THE FIRST MOTORCAR IN PORTUGAL

The first car arrives in Portugal in 1895. It is a Panhard & Levassor vehicle brand, imported from Paris by Jorge Avilez de Sousa Feio, 4th Earl of Avilez.

The Panhard & Levassor was founded by René Panhard and Émile Levassor who used an engine developed by Daimler and create cars with front engine and rear wheel drive. This company is one of the first to manufacture cars for commercial purposes.

This new vehicle is very similar to its contemporaries Phaetons horse-drawn, however, the gasoline engine is the great revolution on the transport industry.
