Table Coach

Travel vehicle used in 1729 at the ceremony of the Exchange of the Princesses on the border of Portugal and Spain, upon the River Caia. On this occasion, Portugal handed Princess Maria Bárbara, daughter of King João V, to the heir of the Spanish Crown, Fernando VI, to be married, and received the Spanish Princess Mariana Vitória, daughter of Filipe V, to marry the future king of Portugal, Prince José I.

1 – The closed octagonal body, only has glass windows on the doors.

2 – The interior is upholstered in crimson velvet and the ceiling of the hood is in lacework with gold fringe.

3 – It has a removable table, which lends its name to the coach.
